LUCENA CITY, Philippines — A worker of the Department of Public Works and Highways was killed while another was injured when a trailer truck rear-ended a dump truck of the DPWH in this city on Thursday.

The fatality, identified only as Efren, 42, was declared dead on arrival at the Quezon Medical Center.

Investigation showed that the trailer was traveling in Barangay Domoit when it rear-ended the dump truck that was stalled along the highway.

The impact pushed the truck forward, hitting two of four men who were standing in front of the vehicle.

The driver of the trailer truck told probers that he had fallen asleep while driving. He was taken to the police station for questioning.

In Pangasinan, two people were killed in separate road accidents in Bugallon and Urdaneta City.

Initial investigation showed that a 50-year-old motorcycle rider was traveling along a narrow street in Barangay Samat, Bugallon when his vehicle crashed into an incoming truck.

The victim was declared dead on arrival at the Lingayen District Hospital.

Meanwhile, a 15-year-old boy was riding his bicycle in Barangay Dilan Paurido in Urdaneta City when he was hit by a Toyota Tamaraw.

The boy was declared dead on arrival at the Urdaneta City District Hospital.
