UPLB shifts to online classes amid transport strike

Bella Cariaso - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB) will shift to online classes today until April 17 due to a transport strike.

In-person modes for laboratory classes, exams and other academic activities that cannot be delivered online may proceed as scheduled, according to UPLB’s office of the vice chancellor for academic affairs.

Transport group Manibela begins today a three-day nationwide strike that will coincide with the government’s rollout of the service contracting program this week.

Manibela chairman Mar Valbuena said the three-day strike is the response of the transport sector to what he described as the government’s inadequate action on the country’s oil price shocks.

On March 16, UPLB started adopting a four-day workweek to conserve fuel.

Working hours at the university are from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., from Tuesday to Friday.
