MANILA, Philippines — Parañaque will begin its own “libreng sakay” program for commuters starting April 13, with 40 jeepneys plying three busy routes during peak hours, the city government said.

According to the local government, 20 jeeps will ply from Sucat to Baclaran, 10 from Sucat to Kabihasnan and 10 from Sucat to Merville.

They rides will be available from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays.

“Free rides are part of Parañaque’s energy conservation programs, which were outlined during the city’s recent technical working group meeting,” the city government said.

Aside from the free rides, Parañaque would provide rice subsidies to 25,000 vulnerable households for at least six months to help them weather the crisis.
