BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong has suspended the number coding scheme to ease transportation difficulties brought by surging fuel prices.

The suspension started yesterday and will remain in effect until April 24.

Magalong signed Executive Order No. 45, suspending the implementation of Ordinance 001-2003  or the Baguio City Number Coding Scheme.

He cited some provisions in the ordinance, which allow the suspension during extraordinary circumstances including situations that disrupt public mobility.

Magalong said some drivers of public utility vehicles have stopped operating, which caused inconvenience to commuters traveling to work, school and other destinations.

He said the suspension of the number coding is a temporary measure while city  officials assess its effects on traffic.
