HPG helping secure ASEAN Summit

MANILA, Philippines — Up to 175 members of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) have been deployed to Cebu to help secure the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit.
Brig. Gen. Rommel Batangan, HPG director, yesterday led a send-off ceremony for the HPG security contingent at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
The contingent – composed of 108 motorcycle riders, 38 drivers, 24 crewmembers of patrol vehicles and five convoy officers – were placed under the temporary supervision of the Presidential Security Command, which is handling the security framework for the ASEAN 2026.
Apart from the officers, Batangan said the HPG also sent 108 motorcycles and 38 patrol vehicles to secure local and foreign delegates who are attending the event.
The officers will remain in Cebu until May 9.
Batangan gave assurance that the HPG can still perform its mandate in other regions even as the force deployed close to 200 personnel in Cebu.
He said the HPG has more than 1,800 members.
