MANILA, Philippines — At least seven people were injured during the collapse of a partial ceiling at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Friday, April 3.

The incident occurred during Good Friday on Holy Week—one of the country’s busiest travel seasons.

“Initial reports from NNIC (New NAIA Infra Corp.) indicate that seven individuals sustained injuries from the incident, and have been promptly given medical assistance,” the DOTr said in a statement.

DOTr Secretary Banoy Lopez has ordered the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) to probe into the incident.

“The DOTr is closely monitoring the situation and expects a thorough assessment of the incident, including the implementation of necessary measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future,” the agency said.

Operations at the NAIA remain normal despite the incident, the DOTr added.
