Quezon City deploys free rides

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government yesterday deployed free rides for commuters affected by the transport strike.
In addition to the free QCity bus, which operates in eight routes connecting major areas in Quezon City, the local government also deployed other vehicles to provide free transport to residents and workers.
The Quezon City Police District and different offices of the local government deployed vehicles for the free rides.
Barangays also utilized their service vehicles to provide free transport to affected residents.
Personnel from the Traffic and Transport Management Department were also fielded to help monitor activities related to the transport strike.
City hall said the QCity bus would continue its operation today, which was declared a national holiday to mark Eid’l Fitr.
In Manila, the city government and the Department of Transportation provided libreng sakay for commuters affected by the transport strike.
According to Mayor Isko Moreno, the city deployed 19 vehicles to provide free rides from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. yesterday.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority general manager Nicolas Torre III reported normal traffic flow along major thoroughfares amid the transport strike.
