DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The Davao City Water District (DCWD) has assured its consumers that it will not increase water rates amid ongoing fuel price spikes.

Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod, spokesperson for the water utility, said the firm would maintain the current approved water rates.

“Unlike power, we are not as volatile. Water rates remain as approved regardless of the fuel hike,” Duhaylungsod said.

She said the DCWD is looking for ways to streamline its operational costs to buffer fuel price increases.

“We are planning to further streamline our operation to reduce costs, but without sacrificing quality of service,” she said.

Duhaylungsod said the DCWD has yet to decide whether to adopt the four-day workweek schedule, noting that the utility’s service is essential.

“We will inform our customers if there are adjustments in our operation,” she said.
