LGUs adopt 4-day workweek

MANILA, Philippines —  Beginning yesterday, the provinces of Basilan and Bohol as well as some cities and towns in Negros Occidental and Pangasinan adopted a four-day weekly work schedule, in response to the national government’s initiative to promote energy efficiency amid rising oil prices due to the conflict in the Middle East.

Under the four-day work scheme, local government offices will open at 7 a.m. and close at 6 p.m., retaining a 40-hour work week.

Frontline services and emergency response offices will continue their regular work schedule from Monday to Friday to ensure an uninterrupted delivery of services to the public.

Among the local government units that adopted the scheme are Murcia and Ilog towns and Silay City in Negros Occidental; the entire province of Bohol, including Tagbilaran City; the entire province of Basilan; the towns of Lingayen, Mapandan, Manaoag, Agno, Bugallon, Bani, Basista, Calasiao and Burgos as well as Dagupan City in Pangasinan. –Ric Obedencio, Cesar Ramirez
