Mother, children held over land row

Ed Amoroso - The Philippine Star

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A mother and her three children were detained for hours inside their house by four men in Barangay Cupang in Antipolo City, Rizal on Saturday.

Police said the four were held at their home in Sitio Igiban after four men, armed with bolos, padlocked the gate and barricaded the house with wooden barriers and tree branches.

The four suspects, identified only as Joe, Leonardo, John and Unifer, allegedly threatened to kill the mother and her children if they tried to leave.

Police said a row over land apparently triggered the illegal detention.

The family was rescued after their neighbors called the police.

Complaints for illegal detention and violation of Republic Act 7610, which protects children against abuse, exploitation and discriminatory acts will be filed today.
