MANILA, Philippines — Former presidential spokesman Harry Roque is confident that the Philippine government’s request for an Interpol red notice alert against him will not materialize.

Roque, who is subject of an arrest warrant over qualified trafficking charges, said the Interpol has received his petition for delisting on the basis of his pending asylum application with the European Union (EU).

“They accepted the opposition and asked that I submit English translations of proof that I have sought asylum,” Roque told “Storycon” on One News yesterday.

“(My request is) pending, but so far, I have confirmed – I have conferred regularly with Austrian authorities – that I am not in the red notice,” he added.

So far, Roque’s name is not on the red notices published on the Interpol’s website.

The former presidential spokesman is in Austria, where his asylum application is being processed.

He claims that his passport is still valid due to a pending motion for reconsideration.

In November last year, the Department of Foreign Affairs announced that Roque’s passport had been canceled by a Pasig court.

Roque maintains that he is a victim of unjust prosecution.

The charges filed against Roque stemmed from his alleged involvement in unlawful activities of a Philippine offshore gaming operator in Pampanga.
