MANILA, Philippines — Eight Chinese nationals were arrested in an alleged scam hub in Alabang, Muntinlupa where authorities rescued a man reportedly held captive for two weeks in what appeared to be a Philippine offshore gaming operator-like office, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) reported yesterday.

NBI-NCR Director Joel Tovera said the operation was conducted after a Chinese man reported that his friend had been illegally detained.

“The victim was able to send a distress call and message to the complainant, which reached us,” Tovera told reporters.

NBI agents immediately rescued the victim and arrested the suspects.

The victim said two of the suspects pointed a gun at him and electrocuted him.

Charges of serious illegal detention have been filed against the suspects.

Six other Chinese nationals working at the scam hub were taken into custody.

Tovera said the NBI would seek a warrant to seize computers and other digital devices found in the facility.
