MANILA, Philippines — A 30-year-old man from South Africa was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Sunday for allegedly carrying six kilos of shabu valued at P40.8 million, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency reported yesterday.

The PDEA said the suspect, known only as JD, flew to Manila from Johannesburg with a connecting flight to Hong Kong.

Authorities nabbed the suspect and brought him to the airport’s exclusion area after noticing suspicious items in his backpack.

When they opened the bag, security personnel found three plastic packs of shabu.

The suspect’s passport, boarding passes, identification cards, bank cards, cellphone and other personal belongings were seized. He is facing drug charges.

Meanwhile, anti-narcotics agents confiscated around 600 grams of shabu worth P4.08 million from a suspected drug dealer in Caloocan City on Sunday.

The PDEA said alias Amil, 39, of Batangas City, was collared along H. Dela Costa Avenue.

Amil allegedly sold a pack of shabu to a PDEA agent who posed as a buyer.

Police also confiscated the suspect’s cellphone and bundles of marked money. He is being held on drug trafficking cases.
