LIST: Road closures in Manila for Lunar New Year

MANILA, Philippines — Road closures are expected during the celebration of the Lunar New Year, according to the Manila Public Information Office.

Motorists are advised to plan their trips ahead of time as the Manila Police District (MPD) implements staggered closures beginning in the early hours of Monday, February 16.

The following areas will be progressively closed to traffic to accommodate various festivities and events:

Monday, February 16

  • 3 a.m.: Binondo-Intramuros Bridge
  • 7 p.m.: Jones Bridge (Southbound)
  • 9 p.m.: Jones Bridge (Northbound)
  • 10 p.m.:  
    • Plaza Lorenzo Ruiz u-turn access (from Juan Luna St. to Quintin Paredes St.)
    • Ongpin St. (from Juan Luna St. to Quintin Paredes St.)
    • Quintin Paredes St. (from Dasmariñas St. to Escolta St.)
    • Juan Luna St. (from Dasmariñas St. to Muelle de la Industria)
    • Plaza Cervantes

To minimize congestion, the following alternative routes have been designated for affected motorists:

  • From Juan Luna St. (to Southbound Jones Bridge): Turn right at Dasmariñas St., turn left to Muelle de Binondo, turn left to Muelle de la Industria, and proceed straight to Muelle Banco de Nacional toward Plaza Sta. Cruz.
  • From P. Burgos Ave. (Northbound): Vehicles intending to use Jones Bridge should proceed straight to MacArthur Bridge or Quezon Bridge.
  • From Riverside Drive (to Northbound Binondo-Intramuros Bridge): Proceed straight to A. Soriano Ave. and continue toward Anda Circle.
  • From Muelle de la Industria (to Southbound Binondo-Intramuros Bridge): Proceed straight to Muelle Banco de Nacional toward Plaza Sta. Cruz.
  • From San Fernando St. (to Southbound Jones Bridge via Plaza Cervantes): Turn right at Dasmariñas St., turn left to Muelle de Binondo, turn left to Muelle de la Industria, and proceed straight to Muelle Banco de Nacional toward Plaza Sta. Cruz.

Tuesday, February 17 reroute.  A grand procession is also scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, starting at 3 p.m. The route from the Manila Central Post Office to Lucky Chinatown Mall is as follows:

  • Right turn to Jones Bridge
  • Right turn to Escolta Street
  • Left turn to Plaza Sta. Cruz
  • Left turn to Dasmariñas Street
  • Right turn to Quintin Paredes Street
  • Right turn to Ongpin Street
  • Left turn to Sabino Padilla Street
  • Left turn to Soler Street
  • Left turn to Reina Regente Street 
  • Proceed to Lucky Chinatown
