Driver assaulted by 3 celebrities? NBI still validating

MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation said yesterday it is still validating statements and gathering evidence in connection with a complaint for assault filed by a driver with the NBI against celebrities Rhian Ramos, Michelle Dee and Samantha Panlilio.
Acting NBI Director Angelito Magno said the bureau is waiting for the report of agents handling the case before taking further action, including the possible issuance of subpoenas.
Magno said there is no confirmed evidence yet against the people involved, as the probe is still ongoing.
He said all statements are being validated, including those of the complainant and the respondents.
Investigators are also checking possible supporting evidence, including closed-circuit television footage (CCTV), he said.
The NBI is also waiting for the official results of the medico-legal examination conducted on the driver, identified by the alias “Totoy.”
Asked whether the parties involved are obliged to provide CCTV footage, Magno said cooperation would help resolve the case.
Magno declined to comment on the credibility of the complainant, saying this can only be assessed after all statements and evidence have been validated.
Totoy accused Ramos, Dee and Panlilio of illegal detention and torture at a condominium unit in Makati last week.
NBI launches podcast
Meanwhile, the NBI yesterday launched its official podcast studio to make the bureau more accessible and responsive amid the fast-paced flow of information.
The podcast will feature episodes focused on the NBI’s mandate and services, including clearance processing and cybercrime cases.
Magno said the podcast may also revisit resolved and historical cases.
“We can look back at old, resolved cases, especially major ones that were not covered by the media before. This will show what the NBI has accomplished through the years,” Magno said, citing the probe into the “I Love You” computer virus in 2000 as one of the bureau’s early cybercrime cases.
