House ethics panel to reopen Barzaga case

MANILA, Philippines — Following a motion adopted by the plenary, the House committee on ethics and privileges will reopen the case against suspended Cavite Rep. Francisco Barzaga on Feb. 3.
Panel chairman and 4Ps party-list Rep. Jonathan Clement Abalos said the notice of the proceeding was personally served and received by Barzaga’s office on Thursday.
“We expect his attendance and full cooperation,” Abalos said.
He noted that the reopening of the case follows the motion made by House deputy majority leader and 1Rider party-list Rep. Ramon Gutierrez and approved after the privilege speech of Manila Rep. Rolando Valeriano.
“The motion made by Rep. Gutierrez was approved after the personal and collective privilege speech of Manila Rep. Valeriano,” Abalos said.
He assured the public that the proceedings would strictly follow House rules and observe due process.
