PCG orders relief of substation chief, personnel

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard has ordered the relief of the PCG Sta. Ana, Davao substation commander and seven other personnel, after a motorboat with 11 passengers and four crewmembers was reported to have sank.
One of the passengers, Christopher Bulis, was found in the waters off Barangay Laker in Sarangani on Wednesday, but the rest of the passengers and crew remain missing.
Macy Gabion, acting PCG Southeastern Mindanao deputy commander, said search and rescue efforts have been expanded to include Malaysian waters.
Gabion said the PCG officers were relieved from their posts for failing to stop MBCA Amejara from sailing to Gov. Generoso town in Davao Oriental.
An initial probe showed that the Amejara left the Sta. Ana wharf without clearance on Jan. 17.
It was supposed to arrive at Gov. Generoso on Jan. 19.
