Mayon logs 19 quakes, stays at Alert Level 3

MANILA, Philippines — Mayon Volcano recorded 19 volcanic earthquakes in the past 24 hours, state seismologists said, as the volcano remained under Alert Level 3.
In an advisory issued Monday, January 19, Phivolcs said it also logged 297 rockfall events and 57 pyroclastic density currents during the same period.
Phivolcs said Mayon emitted 3,788 tonnes of sulfur dioxide on January 18.
The agency noted that lava dome growth and lava flow effusion remain present, while crater glow was described as “fair” and visible to the naked eye.
The volcano continues to exhibit high levels of activity and warned the public to strictly avoid the six-kilometer permanent danger zone due to the risk of explosions, rockfalls and other volcanic hazards.
Aircraft are prohibited from flying close to the volcano, state seismologists said.
