MANILA, Philippines — A total of 6.1 million passengers passed through the country’s ports during the holidays, the Philippine Ports Authority reported yesterday.

According to the PPA, the figure is the highest number recorded for sea travelers.

The PPA said the tally was recorded from Dec. 15, 2025 to Jan. 5.

The total represents a 22-percent increase compared to the 4.7 million passengers served in all Philippine ports in 2024.

In 2023, the PPA recorded at least 4.4 million sea travelers.

The PPA identified the Panay/Guimaras, Batangas, Mindoro, Bohol and Negros Oriental/Siquijor as the top five port management offices, where the bulk of the passengers passed through.

On Sunday, the Philippine Coast Guard recorded 250,505 outbound passengers and 197,291 inbound passengers in all ports nationwide.

The PCG said its 16 districts inspected a total of 1,475 vessels and 1,340 motorboats.

The PCG placed all its offices on heightened alert from Dec. 20 to Jan. 4 to manage the influx of port passengers.
