MANILA, Philippines — The shear line and the trough or extension of a low-pressure area (LPA) may drench parts of the country and trigger flashfloods or landslides, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration warned yesterday.

According to PAGASA, the LPA was detected at 630 kilometers south-southwest of Pag-asa Island in the Kalayaan Island Group in Palawan.

The trough of the LPA may bring “cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms” over Zamboanga Peninsula and the provinces of Palawan, Basilan and Tawi-Tawi.

Bicol region and the provinces of Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Northern Samar, Antique, Aklan, Capiz and Iloilo may experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms because of the shear line.

PAGASA said the northeast monsoon may affect Cordillera and Cagayan Valley as well as the province of Aurora.

The easterly winds may cause fair to cloudy weather with chances of rainshowers or thunderstorms over the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao.
