LGU shuts unsafe amusement park in Bulacan town

SAN MIGUEL, Bulacan, Philippines — After inspectors found its rides to be unsafe, an amusement facility here was ordered closed by the municipal disaster risk reduction and management office yesterday.

The MDRRMO said engineers and safety officers who inspected the facility have declared the amusement rides to be unsafe for children and adults.

Lt. Col. Voltaire Rivera, San Miguel police chief, said the rides were set along Camias Bypass Road in time for the holiday season.

The preemptive inspection came after several accidents were reported in two amusement parks in neighboring Pampanga and Pangasinan provinces, he added.

According to Rivera, the inspectors found that the facility here has not been issued a safety certificate and its operators failed to secure permits from the barangay and municipal governments prior to their operation.

Earlier, 11 people were injured after a Viking pirate ship ride in San Jacinto, Pangasinan collapsed. The victims were mostly minors out to enjoy the holidays.
