2 cops accused of raping policewoman sacked

MANILA, Philippines — Two police officers who allegedly raped a policewoman in Marikina have been dismissed from the service, the National Police Commission reported yesterday.
Napolcom vice chairman and executive officer Rafael Vicente Calinisan said S/Sgt. Josel Baladad and Pat. Christopher Merez have been removed from the Philippine National Police roster.
Baladad and Merez are in restrictive custody.
The victim said the suspects sexually assaulted her in a police car in Barangay Sto. Niño, Marikina on Aug. 17.
According to the policewoman, she was manning her post when the suspects approached her and invited her for coffee.
They went to a convenience store where the policemen purchased a bottle of liquor instead of coffee.
“They gave her alcoholic drinks in the patrol car and raped her,” Calinisan said.
With their dismissal, the benefits of the two policemen were forfeited. They are barred from holding any posts in government.
There is no word yet on the status of the criminal case filed against them.
