Isabela declared rebel-free

MANILA, Philippines — Authorities yesterday declared the province of Isabela in Cagayan Valley free from the influence of communist rebels.
The declaration was made during a ceremony led by Maj. Gen. Gulliver Señires of the Army’s 5th Infantry Division, Brig. Gen. Antonio Marallag Jr. of the Cagayan Valley police and Col. Lee Allen Bauding of the Isabela police.
The declaration marked a new chapter for Isabela, which has moved from years of conflict to a period of peace and progress, the military said.
Officials said the achievement is a result of teamwork among local government units, security forces, community leaders and the people of Isabela.
