Quezon now ASF-free

LUCENA CITY , Philippines — Quezon province has been declared free from African swine fever after all cities and municipalities that previously recorded ASF infections were reclassified from red or infected zone to pink or buffer zone, officials reported yesterday.
The provincial government attributed the development to sustained, coordinated efforts conducted by the office of the provincial veterinarian in partnership with local government units.
Local veterinary and agriculture offices carried out prolonged surveillance, biosecurity enforcement and disease-control measures in ASF hotspots.
Based on the ASF zoning system of the Department of Agriculture, a pink zone indicates recovery with no new active infections reported, although sustained surveillance and strict biosecurity must be continued.
A red zone refers to areas with active ASF cases, while green has no infection recorded.
