Elderly get free medical checkups in Dagupan

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — More than 300 senior citizens from Dagupan City received free eyeglasses and medical check-ups, the Department of Health said.

DOH Ilocos Region director Paula Paz Sydiongco said the elderly patients had free cholesterol screening and blood sugar testing as part of the government’s continuing advocacy to expand comprehensive, age-friendly health initiatives.

Sydiongco said the event was part of the “Elderly Filipino Week” celebration.

“This activity demonstrates our unwavering commitment to ensuring that our lolo and lola receive the quality care they deserve. Vision problems, hypertension and diabetes are common concerns among older adults. Early detection can prevent serious complications,” Sydiongco said.
