Nueva Vizcaya incurs P3.13 billion damage from Uwan

BAYOMBONG, Philippines — The amount of damage to agriculture and infrastructure caused by Super Typhoon Uwan in Nueva Vizcaya has climbed to P3.13 billion, the provincial government reported yesterday.
The agriculture sector incurred the highest amount of damage with P2.01 billion, affecting 31,625 farmers and fisherfolk, according to Gov. Jose Gambito.
Damage to infrastructure was estimated at P1.11 billion.
Records showed that damage to high-value crops amounted to P1.7 billion followed by rice or palay with P227.63 million and corn with P15.25 million.
Damage to livestock, poultry and fishery reached P27.51 million, while to farm equipment and other agricultural infrastructure was estimated at P36.37 million.
Nueva Vizcaya is known as the “salad bowl” of Cagayan Valley, and citrus and ginger capital of the Philippines.
Gambito said that damage to infrastructure such as bridges, roads, flood control projects, schools, government facilities, tourism sites, health centers, churches and other government assets has reached P1.11 billion.
Gambito created “Task Force Uwan” to speed up recovery and rebuilding efforts.
