Rebel killed, soldier wounded in Kalinga clash
TABUK CITY, Philippines — Soldiers from the 503rd Infantry “Peace and Justice” Brigade clashed with communist rebels in Pinukpuk town in Kalinga on Sunday.
The troops, under the 103rd Infantry Battalion, were conducting focused military operations at Barangay Allaguia when they encountered 10 armed rebels. A firefight ensued, resulting to the death of an unidentified communist guerilla and the wounding of a soldier.
The trooper was brought to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital, where he is recuperating.
Following the encounter, the 103rd Infantry Battalion launched pursuit operations to stop the remaining rebels from escaping and ensure the safety of nearby communities.
One high-powered firearm and a bandolier was recovered at the site.
