Comelec to tell Marcoleta: Explain SOCE discrepancy
MANILA, Philippines — After receiving the written explanations of 26 government contractors, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) will compel Sen. Rodante Marcoleta to explain his non-disclosure of campaign donations.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia said a show-cause order would be issued to Marcoleta next week to seek his explanation over the alleged discrepancy in the senator’s statement of contributions and expenditures (SOCE) and statement of assets and liabilities and net worth (SALN).
Marcoleta allegedly did not disclose some of his election donors in the May 2025 elections.
All candidates are mandated to declare campaign donations in their SOCE, Garcia said.
Marcoleta could be charged with perjury or election offense, Garcia said.
The senator earlier admitted that he did not declare certain campaign donations at the behest of donors who wanted to remain anonymous.
Some candidates in recent polls, including members of Congress, are facing an investigation for receiving funds from government contractors.
