MANILA, Philippines — With the recent calamities in the country, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has intensified its drive against post-disaster scammers.

CICC chief Renato Paraiso said they are monitoring the activities of scammers who are taking advantage of calamities to fool people by using the social media platforms and artificial intelligence.

Paraiso reminded well-meaning organizations to stay vigilant as he warned that suspicious pages appear on social media sites to solicit funds.

He said genuine donation drives do not pressure people to provide assistance and do not demand cash on the spot.

“Government capability has significantly strengthened. Through active tools and partnerships, authorities can already trace individuals behind fraudulent activities,” Paraiso said in a statement.

He also urged the public to report scams through government hotlines.
