7 Quezon City startups get P1 million grants

MANILA, Philippines — Seven startups have each received P1 million in grants as part of the Quezon City government’s program to support ideas that offer innovative solutions to various social issues.
The grant recipients belong to the fourth cohort of the Startup QC Program – an initiative that aims to enhance the local startup ecosystem by providing support from industry practitioners, academe and the city government.
“Innovation is not just about technology – it is about empathy, service and equity,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a statement following the Demo Day for the finalists.
“Through Startup QC, we are proving that governance and innovation can work hand in hand, that a local government can be both visionary and inclusive,” Belmonte added.
Among those that received grants were Briyo, which builds modular, bamboo-based wind and hydro turbines for off-grid communities; Hireable, an AI-powered freelance hiring platform; Kazam On-Demand Services, an online marketplace for part-time household help; and Laro, a sports and recreation booking and community app.
Also recognized were Agapai, an AI-powered developmental screening tool for parents; Soolok, which streamlines foreclosure data and home acquisition; and Xamun.AI, a platform that converts business requirements into applications.
The city government said the awarded startups address evolving needs of Filipinos.
“Together, these startups show that innovation in Quezon City is practical, socially aware and designed to improve lives while contributing to broader conversations on sustainability and technology,” the city government said.
In addition to financial support, finalists were provided with capacity-building, mentorship and access to investors and potential clients.
“Each cohort strengthens Quezon City’s role as an active enabler of entrepreneurship, bridging startups with industries and creating a sustainable innovation pipeline that benefits the wider economy,” city hall added.
