Preemptive water release conducted in Angat Dam

MALOLOS, Philippines — Operators of Angat Dam in Bulacan yesterday released water as a preemptive measure amid threats posed by Typhoon Uwan.
The provincial disaster risk reduction and management council told The STAR that the office of the National Power Corp. (Napocor) in Angat issued an advisory on Thursday afternoon regarding the scheduled release of water.
Napocor said that as of yesterday, the water level in Angat Dam was 211.07 meters and still rising due to continuous rainfall over the watershed.
Dam operators opened the reservoir’s floodgates to release 229 cubic meters per second of water to Angat’s downstream river system.
Water released from Angat flows toward Ipo and Bustos dams, which are located along Angat’s river system.
Normally, whenever Angat discharges water, Ipo and Bustos also release water to their respective downstream river systems, which flow toward Manila Bay.
