Wet cropping season irrigation stopped

BUSTOS, Bulacan, Philippines — Operators of Bustos Dam in this province yesterday stopped providing irrigation water for the wet cropping season in preparation for the coming dry season.

Francis Clara of the water control and coordinating unit of Bustos Dam told The STAR that irrigation supply for the wet cropping season started on July 15.

Clara said the dam will start supplying irrigation water for the dry cropping season from Dec. 1 until April 30. 

For this wet cropping season, dam operators have irrigated 23,327.29 hectares of rice farms in Bulacan and parts of Pampanga.

Irrigation water is released to the dam’s north service areas in Baliwag, parts of Calumpit, Pulilan, San Ildefonso and San Rafael in Bulacan as well as Apalit, Candaba, San Luis and San Simon in Pampanga.

The dam’s south service areas include Angat, Balagtas, Bocaue, Bustos, Bulakan, Calumpit, Guiguinto, Hagonoy, Malolos, Pandi, Paombong and Plaridel.
