Dead woman found in Cebu church
MANILA, Philippines — A church in Liloan, Cebu has been closed after a woman, believed murdered, was found inside the premises of the parish on Friday.
Cebu Archbishop Alberto Uy ordered the temporary closure of the Church of San Fernando Rey as he expressed sorrow over the incident.
“We unite in prayers for the victim’s family as we condemn this act of violence committed within the very house of God,” Uy said.
He said that pieces of evidence gathered at the scene and video footage of close-circuit television cameras showed an assault occurred inside the church.
Uy said said all public acts of divine worship are suspended until proper canonical procedures are completed to ensure the reparation of the desecration and the restoration of the church’s dignity as a house of prayer and peace.
