LTO flags 3 ‘underused’ facilities worth P2 billion

MANILA, Philippines — Three “underutilized” state facilities built by Sunwest Construction and Development Corp. have been flagged by the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
Totaling P2 billion, the buildings remain non-operational after being constructed in 2021, LTO chief Markus Lacanilao said on Tuesday.
An information technology training hub and road safety interactive center in Quezon City were priced at P500 million each. A central command center cost P946 million.
The Commission on Audit earlier flagged the projects for improper use of facilities, poor maintenance and underutilization of IT equipment.
State auditors also found an overpayment of P26.9 million due to errors in contract computation.
Sunwest has been linked to former congressman Zaldy Co, who resigned after being implicated in anomalous infrastructure projects.
