Drunk man holds mother hostage
MANILA, Philippines — An 80-year-old woman was rescued after her drunk son held her hostage for two hours at their house in Barangay Highway Hills, Mandaluyong on Saturday night.
Barangay watchmen immediately alerted authorities after the victim managed to peek from the balcony of the house and call for help.
The Special Weapons and Tactics team arrived within 10 minutes and negotiated with the 53-year-old suspect for nearly an hour before storming the house and rescuing the victim.
Capt. Juanito Arabejo, commander of the Mandaluyong police Sector 6, said relatives provided the layout of the house, allowing lawmen to carefully plan the rescue operation.
A mockup gun used by the suspect to threaten his mother was recovered at the scene.
Probers said the suspect had a history of physically abusing his mother whenever he got drunk.
The victim was brought to a hospital for medical examination and counseling due to trauma.
