Phivolcs logs 1,111 aftershocks in Davao Oriental

MANILA, Philippines — State seismologists have recorded over 1,000 aftershocks as of noon on Sunday, October 12, following the doublet earthquake in Davao Oriental on Friday.
In its latest update, the state seismology agency Phivolcs reported a total of 1,111 aftershocks, with magnitudes ranging from 1.2 to 5.8.
Of these, 511 aftershocks were plotted, while 14 were felt.
Both the magnitude 7.4 quake on Friday morning, October 10, and the subsequent magnitude 6.8 tremor later that evening shared the same epicenter: the offshore waters of Manay, Davao Oriental.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, eight people were killed and 385 others were injured.
A total of 491,258 individuals, or 125,283 families, were affected.
