Quiboloy hospitalized for pneumonia

MANILA, Philippines — Alleged sex offender Apollo Quiboloy is recuperating in a public hospital after being diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology said yesterday.
The BJMP said Quiboloy, who founded the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), was rushed to the hospital on Sept. 11 after he suffered difficulty in breathing.
He was diagnosed with moderate risk pneumonia.
The Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 159 authorized Quiboloy’s hospitalization after it was informed about his condition on Sept. 15.
“As of Sept. 29, he is stable and recovering in a public hospital,” the BJMP said in a statement.
The BJMP did not disclose the hospital where Quiboloy is confined.
Quiboloy and five other KOJC members are facing cases of qualified human trafficking, which is a non-bailable offense, before a Pasig court.
An ally of former president Rodrigo Duterte, Quiboloy was arrested in September 2024 after thousands of police officers raided the KOJC’s compound in Davao City.
Quiboloy is also wanted in the United States after a federal grand jury in the US District Court for the Central District of California indicted him for conspiracy to engage in fraud, coercion and sex trafficking of children as well as cash smuggling.
