10 Chinese seafarers rescued from distressed vessel
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued 10 Chinese crewmembers of a tugboat that lost power while sailing in the waters off Palawan on Monday.
In a post on social media, the PCG District Palawan said it deployed the BRP Malapascua to assist the motor tugboat Virgo and its 10 crewmembers.
Reports said that on Sunday night, a certain Mr. Supan informed the PCG Station-Northeastern Palawan that a tugboat was spotted drifting in the waters off Coron.
As the PCG was verifying the report, the tugboat had drifted toward the coast of Barangay Nangalao.
The PCG team on board the Malapascua found the Virgo at past 1 p.m.
The crewmembers were found to be in good physical condition.
The Malapascua towed the Virgo toward Barangay San Fernando in El Nido.
The tugboat’s captain told the PCG that they were headed to China from Malaysia when the vessel’s engine conked out. He said the boat owner has been informed about the matter.
