Classes, government work suspended due to Opong

MANILA, Philippines — Amid the threat of Severe Tropical Storm Opong, classes and government work in Metro Manila are suspended today, according to Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
Mayors in Metro Manila also declared suspension of classes today until Saturday.
In Manila, Mayor Isko Moreno suspended face-to-face classes in all levels, both public and private schools, today and tomorrow.
“This is in preparation for the expected impact of Opong, which weather forecasters predict would bring heavy rainfall, possible flooding and strong winds in Metro Manila and nearby provinces,” Moreno said.
All schools in Manila are encouraged to shift to alternative delivery mode of learning.
The Quezon City government also suspended face-to-face classes today in all levels, both public and private.
“Synchronous or asynchronous modes of learning should be implemented to ensure that students’ learning will continue,” the city government said on Facebook.
The local governments of Muntinlupa and Las Piñas also suspended classes in all levels today.
Pasig, Taguig, Malabon, Caloocan, Pasay and Pateros suspended classes for kindergarten and early childhood development center pupils.
Classes in daycare and kindergarten are automatically suspended under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, based on the Department of Education’s order.
Mandaluyong City suspended in-person classes for preschool and kindergarten, both public and private schools.
Valenzuela City’s suspension of classes covered face-to-face classes in all levels.
