VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon, Philippines — Four people died while five others remained missing in flash floods that occurred in this city and in Maramag town on Wednesday.

The city disaster risk reduction and management office confirmed the recovery of the remains of the fatalities during search and retrieval operations in the villages of Barobo, Bagontaas, Lumbo, Poblacion and Sugod.

Authorities identified three of the fatalities as Larry Labay, Jaya Viña and King Winston Adran.

Classes in all levels in affected barangays were suspended due to the calamity, which displaced up to 349 families who sought shelter in the city gymnasium.

Meanwhile, in the town of Maramag, students and commuters were stranded in floodwaters spawned by heavy rainfall.

Acting Maramag Mayor Lester Tan suspended classes in public and private schools as floodwaters submerged the villages of Dagumbaan, San Roque and Dologon.

The municipal government distributed food packs and medicine against leptospirosis to villagers.

Clearing operations were ongoing as of yesterday.
