Largest Kadiwa store to rise in Parañaque

MANILA, Philippines — Parañaque is set to build the largest Kadiwa store in the Philippines, which will also be home to thousands of vendors near the Redemptorist Church in Baclaran.
The 10,000-square-meter Baclaran Gateway Market will rise beside the Redemptorist station of the Light Rail Transit Line 1, Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez announced on Monday.
The market has a two-fold goal. The first is to host up to 3,000 vendors who are at risk of paying fines for illegally occupying sidewalks in Baclaran.
The sidewalks are intended for pedestrians and parishioners of the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, Olivarez said.
“What we are doing is simply maintaining control with order,” Olivarez said. “We cannot take away their livelihood since thousands depend on it.”
The second goal, according to Olivarez, is to make cheap produce available in the city’s 16 barangays.
He is optimistic that the market’s location will be accessible to attract visitors and potential investors.
