Meta hit for snubbing Senate probe

MANILA, Philippines — Senate games and amusement committee chairman Sen. Erwin Tulfo slammed Meta for not attending his inquiry into online gambling yesterday, warning the social media giant that he would issue a subpoena to compel its representatives’ attendance at the next hearing.
Tulfo rejected the letter sent by Facebook Philippines Representative Office public policy manager Genixon David asking for a separate meeting with the senator instead to discuss Meta’s policy on online gambling and “money gaming content.”
David told the committee that Meta could not send a representative because their experts are based in Singapore and the United States and “are currently unavailable due to prior commitments.”
Sen. Risa Hontiveros seconded Tulfo’s motion to summon Meta in the next hearing or face contempt.
