MANILA, Philippines — Overseas Filipino workers in Qatar are safe following an Israeli airstrike near the Philippine embassy in Doha, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said yesterday.

“I personally went to the area and saw the damage, but we were given assurance that our kababayans are safe,” DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac said in a statement.

He added that during a meeting with the Filipino community there, he was able to talk to some of the Filipino workers.

“I saw that despite the trials, they remain strong and in good spirits,” Cacdac said, adding that the DMW is continuously coordinating with authorities to ensure the Filipinos’ safety.

According to the DMW, the explosion occurred 300 to 400 meters from the Philippine embassy and the Migrant Workers Office.

Earlier, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Israel targeted residential buildings housing several members of the political bureau of Hamas in Doha.
