MANILA, Philippines — The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) is bidding out a P690-million contract to rehabilitate the stations and viaduct of the LRT Line 1.

Based on an invitation to bid, the LRTA said it is ready to spend up to P690 million for the LRT-1’s structural rehabilitation by using epoxy injection for crack repairs.

The project covers all stations and viaducts of the original alignment of the LRT-1 from Baclaran to Fernando Poe Jr., formerly Roosevelt.

The LRTA said it is crucial to undertake the repairs to minimize the risks posed by cracks on the rail line.

The rehabilitation includes the use of epoxy injection and patching of faulty concrete.

The project is in compliance with Executive Order 52, Series of 2018, requiring all government agencies to ensure the resiliency of critical infrastructure, such as transport assets.

The winning bidder needs to finish the rehabilitation in 18 months. The LRTA said repair works should begin in seven days from receipt of the notice to proceed.

The LRTA will close the submission of bids on Oct. 15.

Apart from the crack repairs, the LRTA plans to retrofit the LRT-1 stations on EDSA and Monumento, which is estimated to cost P750 million.
