BI confirms Garma arrival at NAIA

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration confirmed the arrival of retired police Col. Royina Garma at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 yesterday.
The bureau said Garma flew in on a Philippine Airlines flight from Los Angeles in California.
Garma had applied for asylum in the US to prevent her return to the Philippines, where she is facing criminal charges for the killing of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) board secretary Wesley Barayuga in 2020.
Reports said the application was denied and Garma was arrested in the US due to a cancelled visa.
Earlier reports said Garma and former National Police Commission commissioner Edilberto Leonardo allegedly ordered the killing of Barayuga to stop him from revealing corruption in the PCSO, where she served as general manager.
Barayuga was ambushed shortly after he left the PCSO central office in Mandaluyong on July 30, 2020. His driver was injured but survived the attack. — Rudy Santos
