Stricter vehicle inspections ensure security at Crame

MANILA, Philippines — The stricter inspections of vehicles entering Camp Crame are meant to ensure the safety of police officers, facilities and visitors, according to the Highway Patrol Group.
In a statement, the HPG said the inspections follow the Letter of Instruction Kalasag, referring to the Philippine National Police’s official security policy, which outlines access control, vehicle registration, identification systems and other measures to prevent internal and external threats.
“The HPG’s role in vehicle control and access management is ongoing and consistent. (It is) not tied to any single incident,” the statement read.
According to the HPG, the stricter measure is not connected with the discovery of a sport utility vehicle, stolen through a “rent-tangay” scheme and used in the kidnapping of three Chinese and a Filipina, inside the camp on Aug. 6.
“Vehicle inspections by the HPG are not new or reactionary. They have long been part of our regular duties under PNP security protocols,” the HPG said.
