DPWH-Ilocos execs submit resignations

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union , Philippines — The head of the Department of Public Works and Highways in Ilocos region has filed his courtesy resignation, in response to a call of newly designated DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon for a nationwide cleansing of the agency.
“In adherence to the call for accountability, transparency and reforms within the DPWH, I respectfully tender my courtesy resignation from my position as regional director,” Ronnel Tan said in his letter to Dizon.
Tan’s resignation was prompted by controversies hounding the agency over alleged ghost and sub-standard infrastructure and flood control projects.
“It has been an honor to serve our people for decades. I deeply appreciate the trust and confidence that was bestowed upon me, and for giving me the opportunity to work with and serve the Filipino people,” Tan said.
He said all 12 district engineers in the region have tendered their courtesy resignations to give way to a performance evaluation that will be conducted by Dizon.
The evaluation is expected to be completed within two months.
Tan said he and the district engineers would comply with the lifestyle check that will be conducted on all DPWH personnel.
