P476 million shabu seized in Tondo
MANILA, Philippines — Around 70 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu valued at P476 million were confiscated in Tondo, Manila yesterday.
The contraband, concealed in three balikbayan boxes, were discovered by personnel of the Bureau of Customs and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in a courier warehouse along Vitas street.
The illegal drugs were shipped from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Stashed in vacuum-sealed transparent plastic packs, authorities said the illegal drugs were intended for two people who are residents of Bacoor City, Cavite.
The contraband was concealed among assorted bags, canned goods and other personal items.
The consignees, known only as Jose and Izang, are under investigation for violating Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
Meanwhile, a Chinese national known only as Qingmin, 33, was arrested for alleged possession of shabu amounting to P34,000 along Quirino Avenue in Parañaque on Monday.
