Owner, driver of hit-and-run car summoned

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the registered owner and driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident in Marikina City, which left a 74-year-old woman injured.
LTO Chairman Vigor Mendoza II said the agency issued a show-cause order to the owner of a Cherry Tiggo 5X Pro, which was recorded on closed-circuit television footage hitting the elderly pedestrian along A. Bonifacio Avenue in Barangay Tañong last week.
The vehicle has been placed under alarm.
“The victim was thrown due to the impact, thereby showing the extent of harm caused by the accident,” Mendoza said.
Instead of helping the victim, investigators said the driver sped off.
Using the CCTV footage, the LTO was able to identify the vehicle and its registered owner.
The vehicle owner and the driver were ordered to appear at the LTO central office in Quezon City on Sept. 1. They were also asked to submit a written explanation on why they should not be administratively charged.
The driver faces possible charges of reckless driving and failure to perform duty in case of an accident.
