Isko approves Dimasalang Bridge repair

MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has approved the planned rehabilitation of the Dimasalang Bridge to be undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Moreno earlier ordered the DPWH to stop the bridge’s repair works after the agency failed to secure the necessary permits and clearances from the city government.
The project contractor tasked to repair the southbound lane of the structure also paid P504,000 in taxes, Moreno said.
With the impending closure of portions of the Dimasalang Bridge, the mayor directed the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau to come up with a traffic management plan.
The DPWH will conduct retrofitting of piers and abutments, replacement of girders from concrete to steel, and complete redecking of slab.
The southbound lane of the bridge will be closed to motorists. The northbound lane will be used for two-way traffic.
The DPWH is scheduled to start the repair works this month.
